Let The Games Begin!

November

Finally the Asian Games have started! Friday evening they had this amazing opening ceremony, which I will always remember....

'The weather is still great, itis basically the same everyday. About 26 degrees and sunny. Thursday evening we had smog for the first time. I was never in a smog area before, but I can tell you, it is not very nice... But it was gone the next day because it is very bright here during the day.

We enjoyed the Spa next to our hotel, very relaxing and that was ofcourse after training. Still everything is sound, healthy and in shape, so fingers crossed for the trot up on Saturday!

On Friday evening we went to enjoy the giant opening ceremony, which was just AMAZING. It was a mixture of theatre, concerts, circus, shows, art, fireworks...... the whole evening was so breathtaking, you just dod not know where to look! I was so glad I could be in this opening ceremony, I have always dreamt of seeing or experiencing one in real life. I haven't missed an opening ceremony of the Olympics ever since I was six. Getting up at night and watch it all alone, so fantastisch all these athletes with their goals and dreams!
Unfortunately we were only back at 4 at night in our hotel, as it was quite far (almost two hours drive). All busses escorted by the police, the highway was closed for other traffic and so many people down the road to watch it and wave at the people in the bus.
During the opening ceremony we were with three blond trainers for the Malaysian dressage team, apparently that was quite remarkable because the three of us have done 10 tv interviews for Chinese, Qatarese tv and whatever kind of countries they came from. Even people wanted to go on a picture with us and get our autograph.... Maybe we should have told the journalists we were not competing but just trainers..... however... we enjoyed the moment, they did, everybody happy! Let the Asian Games begin!'
